Make a difference... that's where you'll find passion.

The other night at a dinner party I heard “Oh well of course not many people get to follow their passion”.  That old chestnut.  I hadn’t heard it for a while.  It seems to me that this thinking is a little skewiff.  It’s the result of looking for passion in the wrong place.  And that usually hurts.

Finding your passion is a pretty weighty subject – like searching for your star.  There are so many to choose from. What if you get it wrong, or it changes (as it probably will) or your circumstances make it impossible?

You might find it and then think a month later 'that wasn’t it'.  Or feel thwarted and set your self up for failure.  Or, do an inspiring workshop and get ready to chuck the 9 to 5 to do what you love and spend lots of time on the beach with passive income working for you.  Unlikely. What you should be looking for is something quite different.

Look for how you can make a difference

Making a difference is easy. As Paul Jarvis says, just do two things. Leave things better than you found them.  Leave yourself better than when you started.

You’ll still have to work hard.  It will be difficult and frustrating sometimes.  However, if it resonates with your values and you give it your attention you will be energised by it.  I am energised by helping people see how to solve issues, communicate better and be stronger.  That makes the business side of things so much easier.

When you focus on making a difference and serving others, you use what you are good at. Using what you are good at puts your brain chemistry in a good place and you get better results.  No matter what your personal circumstances are you can make a difference.  Really passionate people find where they can make an impact and do it.

Serving others is what we are here for.  That’s where you’ll find passion – without even looking.
